May 2024 Some records CAN be judged by their cover, and Street Panther’s Muscle Rock is one of them. This album is a glorious throwback to ’70s hard rock, dripping with the kind of raw energy that makes you nostalgic for cutting the sleeves of your denim jacket and growing your hair out. This quartet from Montreal might have been born too late to live the experience, but it’s clear they’ve spent countless hours doodling the logos of AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest and the likes on their notebooks.Street Panther debuts with an incredibly fun record brimming with “Bovver Rock, Glam, Sharpie Rock, Blues Power, Coloured Balls, Rose Tattoo, & Jook.” Their dual guitar harmonies are sharper than switchblades, their rhythm section packs the punch of a nail gun, their vocals have a raw, urgent edge, and their hooks are infectious, sure to inspire fist-pumping singalongs. Muscle Rock isn’t a parody, it’s a full-throttle celebration of rock ‘n’ roll’s undying spirit. Crank up the volume, because this record gets better the louder you play it.
